Kimono Exhibition
Moroso took part to the Kimono Exhibition occurred in Tokyo during the Designers Week 2014 from October 25 until November 3, with a special colorful edition of the Diatom chair designed by Ross Lovegrove.
This exhibition was able to link the precious Japanese culture to the future through creativity. It suggested kimono’s new development possibilities starting from sustainable ideas linked to its wonderful techniques of traditional craftsmanship. The exhibition asked to different creators from fashion, art, architecture, products etc. to produce works related to the kimono.
About this special edition, realized in collaboration with the Japanese Kimono textile manufacture Hosoo, the designer Ross Lovegrove said “This artwork reveals an exchange between the otherworldliness that we can view through the digital lens of a space telescope made possible by abstract technologies placed outside of our biosphere and the terrestrial art of kimono textile , advanced now through the highly sophisticated development of digital 3D systems that are transforming all aspects of emergent 21st Century Design.”
The Diatom chair is one of the most appreciated novelties from Salone del Mobile 2014. Using the words of Ross Lovegrove, the aim of this product “is to embrace technologies that open up new possibilities, generating a commitment to explore the moment where industrial investment realizes products which are aesthetically uplifting , long lasting and respectful of environmental issues yet economically accessible from a design house to a wider audience”.
