From fiber to product: the exciting journey of a textile – Budapest
On Thursday, October 13, 2023, inside the Basic Collection store, a new edition of our workshop “From Fiber to Product” took place.
The event featured a prestigious jury selecting the winner among designers and architects chosen from some of Budapest’s most prominent studios.
The jury for this edition consisted of JUDIT OSVÁRT (Elle Decoration), DR.KATA GEREBEN (Art Historian, Curator), DAVIDE MICHELIZZA (Marketing Manager Moroso).
The participants challenged each other to upholster the miniature version of the Ruff armchair, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso, which plays on the design of binary geometry: a harmonious and successful intertwining of seat and backrest. In Ruff the dialogue between forms is solemn and sculptural. The wide armrests rest on the sides of the seat and wrap it firmly, even if they meet in a single point. The result is that of harmony between curved and straight lines: a simple geometry in architectural dialogue with the surrounding space.
A functional form that does not forget that it is an object that inhabits a place. The architects therefore had to create their own customized version of the Ruff armchair in miniature using the vast range of Kvadrat fabrics: the creativity that the jury decreed as the best was rewarded with a 1:1 scale Ruff armchair obviously upholstered in Kvadrat fabric.
